Have you signed the petition? Let’s put Lotta on a commemorative stamp!
From the 1940s to the 1980s, Lotta Hitschmanova inspired thousands of Canadians to empty their pockets to support USC Canada‘s work with the needy in far off lands.
Teenagers were by no means immune to Lotta’s appeals for help, as this small nugget from Clyde Sanger’s biography of Lotta indicates:
“Students at Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver raised $1,650 [a not insignificant sum in 1972] in a ten-hour dance marathon.”
A ten-hour dance marathon – incredible!
If any of the Argyle dancers read this, please add your comments below, on how you found this experience. As a marathon runner, myself, I’m very impressed with your stamina in lasting the full ten hours. I wonder what music was playing that kept you going so long?
